HOT ROD Power Tour 2017 presented by Chevrolet Performance and driven by Continental Tire stops at some great American cities, and drives through some great scenery as well. You’ll surely have plenty to see along the route and plenty to do at each venue, but what about after you leave for the evening? The HOT ROD staff took a quick pre-run of the route and found some good grub along the way, but if BBQ isn’t for you, neither is this list, because we visited just about every smoke shack we could from Kansas City to Bowling Green.

Kansas City, Kansas

Perhaps no other city takes bbq as seriously as Kansas City. You can’t swing a rack of ribs without hitting a bbq shop in Kansas City, and if our brief survey is any indication, they’re all worth trying. While the natives may argue about which is the best at each particular cut of meat or side dish, each time we polled anyone on their favorites, three places kept coming up: Gates, Jack Stack, and Q39. We were only in the city for a day, which gave us only enough time to visit each one once. Do yourself a favor and try at least one of them during your time in Kansas City.

St Louis, Missouri

Keeping the bbq theme going, Sugarfire Smokehouse won us over with their excellent brisket and wide variety of sauces and sides. Their soda fountain is also impressive.

Indianapolis, Indiana

St. Elmo’s and it’s sister restaurant next door, Harry and Izzy’s, are both Indianpolis steakhouse staples. Their renowned for their delicious steaks and horseradish-packed shrimp cocktail.

Bowling Green, Kentucky

White Squirrel Brewery has great burgers, a wide selection of beer, and interesting appetizers. We recommend the PB&J burger and the Bacon Cup.
