By Thursday the time had finally arrived. While we had a great week of hot rod fun, the reason we were in St. Paul was to enjoy the sights and sounds of the MSRA Back to the Fifties Weekend. We were asked by the folks at MSRA to help kick things off at a press party at Mancini’s Char House in St Paul. With radio stations and reporters on hand we all enjoyed some entertainment provided by a member of the local company of the musical Grease. MSRA member Dale Sohlstrom spoke to the folks on hand inside Mancini’s and it was a great way to get the weekend started.
Thursday afternoon we were also invited to attend the Scavangers Car Club annual picnic before Back to the Fifties. In the time-honored tradition of cars clubs, hamburgers and hot dogs were on the grill and club members brought covered dishes for everyone to enjoy. Many thanks for the warm welcome and hospitality that we were shown by the Scavangers members.
Friday morning the Back to the Fifties Weekend kicked off. The ARP/STREET RODDER Road Tour had a hospitality tent and special parking all weekend. Almost 12,000 pre-1964 vehicles covered the beautiful Minnesota State Fairgrounds. Cars and car enthusiasts were everywhere on the grounds. We did some Facebook Live broadcasts, which can be found at our STREET RODDER Facebook page.
It was another great event in St. Paul. Many thanks to the Minnesota Street Rod Association for going out of their way to make us feel welcome. There is no question that the Road Tour will be back in St. Paul in June of 2018.
