The World of Outlaws returned to the Dirt Oval at Route 66 Raceway for the first time in a dozen years. Both the WoO Craftsman Sprint Car Series and WoO Craftsman Late Model Series tackled the half-mile in the two-day Outlaw Clay Classic.
Night one featured the Sprint Cars. Donny Schatz continued to roll, picking up his 12th win of the 2016 season. Modifieds were on hand as a support class with the legendary Kenny Schrader picking up the win. Schrader had nothing but great things to say about the work of promoter Sheri Heckenast and the team at Route 66 since it was re-opened this spring.
Night two brought the Late Models….and unfortunately the rain. The Late Models made it through qualifying and heat races, but the weather arrived just in time to disrupt the main. The Late Models are scheduled to return to Route 66 October 13.
