For the first time since 2005, the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) kicked up the clay at Luxemburg (WI) Speedway.  Current series Northern Region point leader Zack VanderBeek took control on lap eight of the 40-lap main. and held off Ryan Gustin on a late restart.

Local standout Mike Mashl took control from the pole position as the green flag dropped on the A Main at the third-mile.  Mashl held to the bottom line, leading the first five laps with VanderBeek right in his tire tracks.  Eventually Curt Myers was able to make up ground using the high line and nosed ahead of Mashl for the lead.  However, Mashl slipped out of the bottom groove on lap seven, opening the door for VanderBeek to make a three-wide pass and take the top spot.

As VanderBeek stretched out his lead, Ryan Gustin picked his way through traffic.  Once to Second, Gustin started to reel in VanderBeek.  However, VanderBeek (who had to replace a hub after his heat race) stretched out his lead until the only caution of the race fell on lap 38.

With the front row to himself, VanderBeek was able to escape.  Gustin attempted to shake free and challenge, but could not manage to do so.  Cade Dillard finished Third, Dereck Ramirez was Fourth, and former Luxemburg Speedway Champion Benji LaCrosse rounded out the Top Five.

The USMTS makes its first ever stop at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek, WI on Wednesday.  Racing begins at 6 PM local time.

In the support divisions Ryan Manthei was victorious in the Street Stocks and Troy Muench held off Rod Snellenberger by less than a car length in the IMCA Stock Cars.
