Derek Griffith found a little something extra in the second half of the US PRO/SLM Nationals at Seekonk Speedway Wednesday. Restarting in eighth after the lap-100 break, the 20 year old was able to work his way to the front and secure a $10,000 pay day.
Joey Polewarczyk led the first half of the race, but restarted Fifth after an inversion of the Top Five at the break. Still sitting outside the Top Five, Griffith began his charge. In the late happenings of the race he was able to slide past Travis Benjamin and Polewarczyk on the high side. He then set his sights on the leader Eddie MacDonald. On lap 184, Griffith made the pass into the lead.
Garrett Hall and Derek Ramstrom followed Griffith past Polewarczyk and MacDonald to secure Second and Third. MacDonald held on for Fourth and Dave Darling rounded out the Top Five.
