The first drivers’ meeting of the Tri-Five Nationals Road Tour was held on a rainy Monday morning at the Hilton Garden Inn in Bowling Green. As we went through the itinerary of the upcoming week’s activities the rain started to let up a little. Almost all of the 37 registered participants and passengers were in attendance. Many had made the trip to Bowling Green on Sunday after the NSRA Street Rod Nationals. We set up camp in Bowling Green for the week as the excitement builds for the American Tri-Five Association’s Tri-Five Nationals that will take place on Friday and Saturday.

Monday’s activities could be described as planes, trains, and automobiles. The good folks at the National Corvette Museum had been a huge help in coordinating our activities for the day. Our first stop was at Aviation Heritage Park, which honors South Central Kentucky and their aircraft. There were five aircraft on display when we visited. A person was stationed at each plane and gave us a detailed history of the plane and the tie-in with South Central Kentucky. It was a fascinating hour that we spent at the park and we appreciate the efforts and enthusiasm of the folks who greeted us Monday morning. It was then onto the National Corvette Museum for a tour of the fantastic facility, which is filled with the vehicles that help to tell the story of America’s first sports car. We enjoyed a box lunch and it was soon onto the Historic Railpark and Train Museum. There we toured the restored 1925 L&N Train Depot filled with interesting exhibits and displays. We also got a tour through a number of vintage restored rail cars. It was a great first day on the Tri-Five Nationals Road Tour.
Tuesday many of the participants headed north to the Maker’s Mark Distillery in Loretto, Kentucky. It was a beautiful day and a gorgeous two-hour drive to Loretto; the grounds were fantastic. The guided tour took us through seven of the buildings and told the history of that famous brand of Kentucky Bourbon.
Others in our group went to Mammoth Cave Nationals Park and got a chance to explore the beauty of the caves. It was a great day two on the Road Tour.
Stay tuned as we continue our travels in the Bowling Green area and as the excitement builds up to the American Tri-Five Association’s Nationals at Beech Bend Raceway.
