One of the appeals of Speed Week is the incredible variety of cars that the competitors choose to run, there’s always at least a few engine/body combinations that we’d never seen before, some that we’d never even considered. Photographer Dave Kommel meandered all over the salt and found some of the most interesting oddball cars, from a twin-engine truck to a Buick-straight-eight-powered Jaguar, with plenty of hot rods, lakesters, and even a legendary 300mph roadster thrown in for good measure.

The Cummins, Beck, and Davidson roadster is the world’s fastest Highboy, having 300mph records under its belt.
Eddie Umland’s cabover Suburban push truck is one of our favorite haulers on the salt.
Danny Thompson is still holding onto the fastest flying mile of the even with his 435mph pass on Monday morning.
