HOT ROD Drag Week 2017, powered by Dodge and presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive

Today was Richie Crampton’s last day here at Drag Week 2017 as he has other obligations for NHRA Top Fuel Racing this weekend in North Carolina. Richie was one of two NRHA competitors registered in Drag Week this year, Larry Dixon being the other.

Richie’s weapon of choice for Drag Week was a 1957 Chevrolet 210 station wagon from Craigslist. In all of its patina glory, the body was removed from the original bone structure of the car and grafted onto a chromoly 25.3 spec chassis which is good for the six-second pass range. His current setup, a twin Precision turbo set up on an LS series engine controlled by Holley EFI is certainly a solid base to lay down some strong numbers.

“We’ve got about seven runs on it and five of those were aborted attempts. We left our run ‘til the last minute and didn’t get as much testing done as we wanted to. We are lacking a little on the performance side but we’re still having fun.”

The stance and attitude of this car is unique, much like an early Jeff Lutz sort of theme, but a little rougher around the edges. The fact that guys like Richie are out there tearing it up with everyone else is a testament to the alluring thrill of Drag Week.
