Indy’s Performance Racing Industry (PRI) show is the mecca of all things mechanical for motorsport. You’ll notice some of them are dented and dirty, while others are pristine machines, but none of them are posing with the looks of performance — PRI is where the race cars lie, and there’s few places where so many different forms of motorsport come together to push their latest products and ideas. You won’t find booths full of bedazzled subwoofers or three-story-tall wheels, but you’ll find some extra horsepower, for certain.

What makes PRI unique is that you’re able to study and compare the bevy of racing vehicles and technologies on display, so you’re able to find just about everything from Porsche LMP1 Le Mans prototypes to Jeff Lutz’s Drag Week-winning pro mod Camaro at the Indianapolis Convention Center — and that’s where the geeking out begins, as you can study how different types of race cars handle some of the same core problems: Weight, packaging, cooling, plumbing, wiring, and more. Here’s 200 photos from yesterday’s kick-off of PRI 2016, showcasing the spectrum of speed machines that can be found.
