When I was 16 I had a 1970 1/2 RS that cost me my license. Thirty-seven years later, I bought a 1971 Camaro in 2011 that I thought was in good shape. Wrong. After I had the paint removed I found both quarter-panels made from body filler. I had to have the quarter-panels, the trunk floor, and the roof replaced due to someone a long time ago putting in a 1980s sunroof.




I decided just to change everything to what and how I wanted it. I did all the work after the bodywork was done. This was going to be the first and last car I could do. I did the wiring, interior, rearend, front suspension, trans, engine. Every little bolt, washer, or wire was done by me while working a fulltime job plus odd jobs to earn some extra cash.
The easiest way to explain is just to say what I put in the car: a blueprinted 496-inch big-block with an Edelbrock E-Street EFI and Air Gap intake (it makes 628 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque); aluminum radiator; Flex-a-lite electric fans; Monster Transmission 700R4 with a B&M shifter; TCI 2,200-stall converter; Doug’s Racing headers and Flowmaster mufflers; Wilwood front and rear disc brakes; Detroit Locker with 3.75 gears; Moser 30-spline axles; Hotchkis tubular A-arms, subframe connectors, and rear sway bar; Flaming River tilt steering and wheel; Auto Meter gauges; Air Lift compressor and rear shocks; Summit Racing Equipment seats; and American Racing wheels.
