A weekend full of big wins and Championship implications came to a close Sunday on day three of the Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park Sunoco World Series. The final day featured the Whelen Mods, ISMA Modes, and NEMA Lites, as well as the Thompson Modifieds, Limited Sportsman, and Street Stocks.
Timmy Solomito, who is becoming very familiar with Victory Lane at Thompson, scored the win in the Whelen Modifieds. A Fifth Place finish for Doug Coby was good enough for him to lock up his fifth series Championship.
Keith Rocco hoped to wrap up a track Modified Championship with a win. However, Rocco came together with Chase Dowling on a restart while leading. This allowed Todd Owen to swipe the top spot and cruise to the win. Rocco finished Third to put the wraps on the Championship.
There was plenty of controversy in the Limited Sportsman division as Shawn Monahan seemingly received some help when his brother Diego spun title rival Scott Sundeen, even though Shawn seemingly was in position to win the title. Diego was ejected from the race and Shawn was greeted to a chorus of boos. As for the race up front, Corey Fanning took the victory, but post-race inspection resulting in his car being disqualified from the event. Jeff Van Pelt was credited with the win.
In the NEMA Lites Ryan Bigelow went on to claim a dominant World Series win. Danny Cugini grabbed a Top Five finish to take the NEMA Lites Championship.
Much like Cugini, Jon McKennedy ran a consistent race in the ISMA Modifieds and utilized a Top Three finish to scores his first ISM Championship. Dave Shulluck won the feature event.
Allen Coates won the Street Stock feature.
