On Thursday the Sherm’s Plating Surf’s Up Tour made the short drive to the facilities of Wilwood Engineering in Camarillo, California. Wilwood Engineering has been the Official Brake Sponsor for the Road Tour for many years. Their products are certainly an important part of our Road Tour vehicle each year. When we arrived we were greeted by the Wilwood team and we immediately broke into smaller groups for tours of the research and development and manufacturing areas of the large complex. It was surprising to see how many different braking products Wilwood produces. It is certainly not just our hot rod hobby. They are involved in applications ranging from lawn mowers to huge industrial equipment. The manufacturing areas were spotless and all of the equipment was state of the art. After our shop tours we were treated to some delicious hamburgers and hot dogs cooked on the grill by chef extraordinaire Michael Hamrick. Thanks to everyone at Wilwood Engineering for putting together our great lunch stop on Thursday.

From Wilwood Engineering it was another short drive to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley. Sitting on top of a high hill the massive museum overlooks the surrounding areas of Simi Valley and the view almost reaches the ocean to the west. The Ronald Reagan story is told very well, starting with his early days in the Midwest. His acting career and then the governorship of California is an interesting part of the museum. His eight years as President of the United States are covered in detail and his impact on the world is very apparent. In one massive building there is a Boeing 707 that served as Air Force One during the Ronald Reagan presidency and for six other presidents until 2001. The sight of the plane on display is breathtaking and visitors are able to walk through the plane and get an up-close look at what truly is a piece of our nation’s history and heritage.
It was another great day on the Sherm’s Plating Surf’s Up Tour.
