More Hands-On Learning Coming to 2018 GRIP Seminars

Last year organizers of the GRIP Seminars presented by Circle Track decided to shake up their program and allow for more hands-on learning.  The new approach was a great success, leaving attendees with a much richer experience.

Because of the positive feedback, GRIP has decided to build upon the success of last year and add new features for this year’s seminars which take place February 2-4, 2018 at the Mooresville Citizen Center in Mooresville, North Carolina

“I think people really enjoy the hands-on experience,” said GRIP organizer Carrie Enders.  “Guys racing at tracks around the county don’t have the access to see this kind of stuff.  So to have a whole afternoon at the wind tunnel or shake rig, it’s kind of cool for them to see.”

In similar fashion to last year, GRIP will have class sessions in the morning, then move to an off-site location for the hands-on experience.  Once again they will head to the A2 wind tunnel after a morning full of classes with topics related to what will be tested.

New for this year will be a trip to ZETA Performance.  Instead of visiting the K&C rig like last year, attendees of GRIP will have a chance to see tests performed on a shaker rig.

“Going to the K&C rig might have made a little bit of a long day because it’s all very slow moving,” Enders said. “But at the shaker rig we’ll put a car up and we’ll be able to see what we learned in class that day about bump stops, sway bars, etc.  It will be an experience attendees might not otherwise get around their home tracks.”

The hands-on learning won’t just be limited to the class time either.  Enders said representatives from CTW Automation will be on hand during lunch to do demonstrations on a shock dyno, as well. “They are the dyno experts now, and consist of a bunch of guys who used to work at Roehrig.

“It can help with someone who isn’t sure how to read the graph or know the difference between a wave graph or sine graph; they’ll be there to answer those questions.  We’re going to do that during Friday and Saturday during the lunch hour breaks.”

Enders added that new classroom topics for 2018 include wiring and engines.

The Seminars will also include a meet-and-greet/open house at SRI Performance.

Enders said only about 25 tickets remain for the seminars.  Those who still have questions can stop by the GRIP Seminars booth at PRI, where they will have show-only specials.  GRIP also will be hosting a free mini-seminar during PRI on Thursday, December 7 at 9:30 a.m. in room 211.  The topic will be bump stops.
