Released from the Fire: The Demon is Here!

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, it is here. The Demon has arrived! This is probably one of the most anticipated vehicle releases that we can remember in recent history, and rightfully so because this car is breaking a lot of precedents set by the industry and tooting its horn louder than everyone.

Yes the Demon is the first production car to pull wheelies.

3,300 people in North America (3,000 in the U.S. and 300 in Canada) will receive the SRT Demon, the first purpose-built street-legal production car in the industry. This limited-production vehicle has 840 hp and 770 lb.-ft. of torque, sending it down the quarter mile in 9.62 seconds at 140 mph. Guinness World Records certified the Demon as the first production car to achieve a front-wheel lift, not hard to believe when 60 mph shows up in 2.3 seconds.

Enough numbers though. What are these lucky owners getting with this monster?

The first goodie is one that hits home with us here at Hot Rod because our editors were the ones who wrote the leather-bound track tech manual that lays out the technical aspects of the car and teaches owners how to set the car up for the track.

Dodge reached out to Hot Rod where some of the editors contributed to writing the owner’s manual for the Demon.

There are a couple of options that only cost $1.00USD.

Demon Authentication Package

This includes the 12 build sheets that denote each unique configuration of every Demon as it was produced.

A carbon-fiber Certicard featuring the owner’s name, VIN number, serial number and production option(s) sales code.

The Demon Crate

This crate contains an array of parts that allows each owner to unleash all of the power and torque the Demon is capable of on the track. Inside owners will find:

Direct Connection Parts:

  • Performance powertrain control module with high-octane engine calibration
  • Replacement switch module containing high-octane button
  • Conical performance air filter
  • Passenger mirror Block-off plate
  • Narrow, front-runner drag wheels

Demon-branded track tools:

  • Hydraulic floor jack with carrying bag
  • Cordless imact wrench with charger
  • Torque wench with extension and socket
  • Tire pressure gauge
  • Fender cover
  • Tool Bag

The back seat is also available for $1.00USD, but if part number 82215918 is ordered, owners will get everything needed to block off the opening to the trunk and replace the seat with a cargo tray.

If you want to go faster, you must shed some weight. Passengers are weight.

Owners also get a foam-padded case to secure the front-runner wheels and tools in the trunk.


Those were the goodies that only cost a dollar! That’s not it though, because there’s plenty more pieces to this crazy puzzle.

As much fun as the Demon will be on the track, it’s even better out on the street. Mopar is offering the Demon Street Tire Package (part number: 82215919) which includes 20×11-inch Devil’s Rim wheels from the widebody Hellcat with Pirelli 305/35ZR20 tires.

The Demon’s Rim wheels are the same as those on the Widebody Hellcat and are available for street use on the Demon.

Once back home after a weekend at the track, owners can put the Demon to sleep with a personalized, tailored car cover. Meant for indoor use, this cover features the same paint scheme of each car with the driver’s name embroidered above the driver’s door and is available for purchase at $695 USD.

The custom car covers have been tailor-made for the Demon.

In any vehicle, especially one that has been banned by the NHRA because it’s too fast, safety is very important. Speedlogix offers an optional four-points harness bar that doesn’t require the owner to cut or drill anything to install it, as the Demon does not come standard with a back seat.

The harness bar makes sure the four-points harness will keep the driver in the seat as it blasts down the quarter in a fashion deemed bannable by the NHRA.

No racecar is complete without data acquisition. Racelogic created a Demon-exclusive VBOX Video HD2 data logger and in-car camera system. This system uses 10-hertz GPS capability that synchronizes with the video capture to provide the driver with real-time track performance of the vehicle.

Racelogic provided a bespoke data-logging and image-capturing system exclusively for the Demon.

The trackable information and functions includes:

  • 60-, 330-, 660-, 1000-feet, quarter-mile and 0-60 et.
  • Accelerator and brake use
  • Gear selection
  • Engine RPM
  • Vehicle speed
  • G-force reading from launch
  • Wheel slip
  • Air temperature
  • Altitude
  • Launch Control activation
  • TransBrake activation
The display looks like a video-game but the functionality is beneficial to anyone wanting to maximize the performance of the Demon.

Like many other gadgets on the Demon, the VBOX HD2 Video system is customized with the owner’s name, VIN and serial numbers all printed on a metal ID badge on the harness bar, and the carrying case.


The Demon being delivered to dealerships today is incredibly exciting. Dodge and SRT have made a car that stands alone in the industry. This is the first car to come with features like drag radials and a transmission brake from the manufacturer. Tim Kuniskis, Head of passenger cars, Dodge, SRT, Chrysler & Fiat, FCA North America ensures that the engine in the Demons is all new.

“It’s not a tuned-up version of our Hellcat engine. The only part that carries over is the cylinder head. We deck honed the block, which is something you see on racecar engines. New crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, camshaft, valvetrain, and 2.7L supercharger.”

Needless to say, we are itching to get our hands on one of these cars and put it through its paces. A car like this is truly unique and capable of great things. We’ll have to wait and see. Until then, get ready for the internet to get inundated with videos as buyers finally take ownership of the 2018 Dodge SRT Demon starting this week!
