Enthusiasts in Florida always have lots of events to choose from with multiple shows held every weekend throughout the year. Mustang fans in particular enjoy tailor-made events like the Mustang Club of America that puts on national and regional events while local Mustang clubs add even more choices. Although the legendary Daytona Turkey Run is not exactly Mustang oriented, it is still a Blue Oval favorite.
The annual Fall Daytona Turkey Run is now in its 44th year and enjoys a strong following from around the country—even around the world. Held over the four-day Thanksgiving weekend, vehicles braved the rain on Thursday and overcast skies on Friday to be rewarded with bright sunshine Saturday and Sunday. Thousands of cool classic rides were on display in the infield of the Daytona International Speedway, a fact that meant considerable stamina was required to see them all.
The lineup of vehicles could easily keep your attention for days as you wandered the rows of imaginatively designed customs. If you happened to be searching for parts, the 3,000 vendor spaces were filled and offered everything from shiny and new to rusty and old. The car corral had a tempting collection of vehicles if it was time for something fresh in the family garage and hundreds changed hands over the weekend. Food suppliers offered a diverse menu of treats to keep your energy levels up while you listened to the rockabilly sounds of ‘Go Get Gone’, visited the fast-paced Mecum Auctions Mobile Experience, checked out the Rat Rod Rally and Ford Performance booth, or just hoped to hear your number called for the huge Saturday and Sunday door prize giveaways.
There is one more reason why this event has become a fan favorite: proceeds from the annual automobile raffle have been responsible for more than $8 million in donations over the years to the community.
