If you’re a Ford fan like us, there’s no doubt Ford Performance’s booth at PRI is one of your favorite stops. Each year we make our way to the booth with the hope of seeing new Ford Performance parts that we can add to our Mustang. We’re never disappointed, either, and this year was more of the same.
With the 2018 Mustang making a lot of waves with the performance aftermarket, we expected to see many parts aimed at the latest Mustang. What we didn’t expect to see was a 2006 Shelby GT-H with a 2018 GT Coyote swap, along with plenty of Ford Performance parts. We didn’t expect to see Nate Stymiest’s Coyote Stock car, but with its beautiful Bimini blue hue, we shouldn’t have been surprised. Somewhere Kermit Buffington is saying, “Dang, that’s my old car.”
Under the hood of the above 2006 Shelby GT-H is this 2018 Mustang Coyote crate engine and controls pack. The third-gen 2018 Coyote is rated at 460 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, and features a 12:1 compression ratio. The 2018 Coyote brings even more Ford Performance to the table over the previous version, which was good for 435 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. The Shelby GT-H would surely be a blast to drive with the Coyote under the hood, but the car also featured several suspension, exhaust, and brake upgrades straight out of the Ford Performance catalog.Under the hood of the 2018 Mustang GT in the Ford Performance booth was this new-for-2018 joint venture between Ford Performance and Roush. This is a new 2650 Twin Vortices Series (TVS) supercharger featuring what Ford Performance calls a “high twist, 4-lobe rotor design, which is 15-percent larger than the previous TVS2300.” This new 2650 design is said to really shine brighter as the tach swings to the right. With 700 horsepower on tap with the 2650, we can’t wait to see and experience this new blower first-hand.
Gear swaps have always been the must-have in the Mustang market, but we perhaps didn’t expect to see a 4.09 gear for 2015-2018 Mustangs. With the new-for-2018 ten-speed automatic, that 4.09 gear is going to be a popular addition.
Regardless what you need for your Mustang, Ford Performance has it. Now, who wants to give us a 2018 Mustang GT?
Ever since the 2015 Mustangs debuted with a new IRS design, Ford Performance saw fit to add a halfshaft upgrade right off the bat. Generally, when it comes to many Mustang owners, the first place we go after we leave the dealership with our new Mustang is the dragstrip. Knowing that to be the case, Ford Performance made sure to have enthusiasts in mind with these upgraded halfshafts. Ford Performance also had a 4.09 gear for the 2015-2018 Mustang’s Super 8.8 at PRI. This gear seems like it will be the perfect match for both the 6R80-, and especially the latest 10R80-transmission.
