Days of testing and qualifying have brought us to this point: the fields are set, many racers have been locked out of competition, and the Duck X Productions crew have the cash ready for the champions to be crowned on Sunday. The Radial vs. The World competition began slowly with only a couple of racers getting clean hits, but after two more rounds, the field tightened up with Stevie “Fast” Jackson claiming the top position thanks to a stellar 3.804 at 196.93 mph. The 32-car field was cutoff at 4.594 seconds, sending over 20 racers packing.

The Pro 275 continued to be dominated by Josh Klugger as he held a tight grip on the top of the ladder thanks to his 3.983 at 197.71 mph run in the first round of qualifying. That was verified as a badass run thanks to back-to-back 3.99s, still carrying a sizeable lead, in terms of elapsed time, over the competition. Greg Powrie slid into the second spot with a 4.090 at 190.30 mph. For the popular X275 class, which was whittled down from 52 cars to just 32, it was Ron Rhodes holding on to the number one position thanks to his career-best of 4.388 at 160.63 mph performance. The cars were stacked up behind him with John Keesey (4.424), Rich Bruder (4.425), Tyree Smith (4.427), and Kenny Hubbard (4.451) for the top five spots.
The closely related Ultra Street and Limited 275 brought in great fields of cars as some hitters elected to run both categories. In Ultra Street, Alex Hayes was within striking distance of the category’s all-time record when he dropped 4.693 at 153.81 mph to lead the crowd. He credited a recent switch to Holley EFI as a huge component of his newfound performance. Tony Alm raced his way into the second spot with a 4.717 at 148.35 mph while Cameron Massengale represented the nitrous camp in the top three thanks to a 4.720 at 148.04 mph. It was all about the big-block Chevy in Limited 275 when Mike Terry of Round Rock, Texas knocked off a 4.658 at 152.04 mph with his nitrous-enhanced 588ci engine from Reher-Morrison. Four of the top five qualifiers were big-block powered and Alm ran 4.720 at 153.74 mph to break their stranglehold on the category.

The Limited Drag Radial class kicked off its championship season at South Georgia Motorsports Park and they crowned their 2017 champion, Shane Stack, at the conclusion of qualifying. After three rounds, Scott Husted was the quickest in the category thanks to his 4.164 at 186.54 mph efforts. The new heads-up small tire class called DXP235 offered low 5-second capable vehicles for a new way to enter this type of racing. Jason Anderson and his 1969 Nova were the talk of the eliminator with a stellar 5.175 at 135.58 mph to lead the new field of racers. Ken Quartuccio was the biggest player in Outlaw 632, as usual, thanks to a 4.237 at 163.93 effort. Cheyenne Stanely held on to the top spot in Open Comp while Eddie Brink was the 6.00 index top qualifier with a 6.002.
