The Summit Racing Equipment I-X Piston Powered Auto-Rama fills the International Exposition Center in Cleveland with approximately 1,000 piston-powered vehicles of every description. For three days spectators have been pouring in the doors and walking all over the 1-million-square-foot venue to get their fill of cars, boats, trucks, bikes, and more. It all draws big crowds, but we would bet that the biggest crowds are here to see the muscle cars and street machines. In that category we would include all sleek and sexy Sixties, Seventies, and later iron built to go fast and look like it. Many of the cars are restored or preserved factory muscle cars, built by Detroit. Many more are street machines, built by hot rodders and shops to take the factory cars to the next level and beyond. Many are street cars. Some are race only. Some blur the line.
As we cruised the aisles of the I-X Center we found a huge variety of musclebound machines to share with you. We’ve included accurate restorations, wildly modified iron, and as many makes as we could find. These are hot rodding’s Olympians—piston-powered, pumped-up, and perfect. These are the cars that shook up the hot rodding world when they hit the scene starting in the early Sixties. Fifty-plus years later, the world is still shaking.
