Picture a big table covered with 1,000 ignition keys. If the 1,000 keys belonged to the approximately 1,000 vehicles participating in the 2018 Summit Racing Equipment I-X Piston Powered Auto-Rama, which key would you reach for? Driving Jeff Lutz’ 3,500-horsepower ’57 Chevy street legal drag car, operating a 1942 Bucyrus Erie 15-B front shovel, or flying a Cold War era Boeing KC-97G Stratofreighter (all of which we saw at the Piston Powered Auto-Rama) would be incredible experiences. Even so, we would probably pick a key belonging to one of the many pre-War street rods on display at the Cleveland International Exposition Center.
Thr selection of Twenties, Thirties, and early Forties cars was mostly Fords, as you’d expect, and represented a good mixture of Model Ts, Model As, Deuces, later Thirties iron, and fat-fendered favorites. They were mostly modified, with a few restored classics on hand. Roadsters, coupes, sedans, and Vickys were all represented. Some were traditionally done, some were contemporary. We could go on and on describing them all, but instead, we’ll let you stop reading and start looking. The accompanying photo gallery and video will give you a look at a portion of the impressive early iron at the Summit Racing Equipment I-X Piston Powered Auto-Rama.
