Each August, over 3,000 Tri-Five Chevys show up in Bowling Green, Kentucky, for the Danchuk Tri-Five Nationals. And a highlight of the party is when they give away a stunning example to one lucky attendee at the show. Last year it was a red, white, and badass ’57 gasser so the team over at Woody’s Hot Rodz had a tough act to follow. As Woody’s Chris Sondles told us, “When we came up with this idea in 2014, we knew that the giveaway cars would be a huge part of the event’s success. We thank our friends at Golden Star for sponsoring the program each year and for providing us great, new Tri-Five sheetmetal to work with.”
For those that may have had their heads in the sand for the past several years, Woody’s has been leading a resurgence in the popularity of all things ’55, ’56, and ’57 Chevy. They introduced all-new ’55 and ’57 Chevy bodies to the market in 2011 and they have been building the all-new bodies at their Bright, Indiana, facility since 2013 with the same craftsmanship that goes into the turnkey builds that they have built for over 15 years, many of which have shown up on the pages of Super Chevy through the years.

This year’s giveaway car’s chassis has been loaded with a full suspension kit from RideTech, while Wilwood brakes will provide the needed braking power. The wheels are the all-new Rocket Attack single-piece semiforged wheels. With 20x10s hanging out back and 18x8s guiding this ’55 up front.
The 2018 car is going to be a runner as well. The 435hp Chevrolet Performance LS3 that was provided by Rinke Performance has been outfitted with tons of go-fast parts from Holley. Using Holley’s new Mid Mount Accessory Drive system, black cast exhaust manifolds, and Hot Rod oil pan made the installation a snap. Add in the black Hi-Ram intake, 95mm throttle body, 48lb injectors, and complete Terminator EFI kit this baby will scream. Holley dressed the engine with their finned, retro valve covers and even provided a full Sniper fuel system. The LS is backed by a Rinke Performance provided GM 4L60E transmission. The complete wiring harness is from American Autowire and the inside creature comforts will be thanks to Dynamat, TMI Products, and Vintage Air.
As the driveline and chassis come together the team at Woody’s fab shop is finishing work on the all-new ’55 two-door sedan body. The Woody’s-built sedan will be covered in Axalta coatings and will be classic black. Couple that classic hot rod look with plenty of goodies from Danchuk, Lokar, Eddie Motorsports, Mattson’s and others and this will be a car that anyone that loves Shoebox Chevys would love to have in their garage!
