When Chris Braun, owner of Brauns Motorsports in Lomita, California, decided he wanted a Chevelle he started formulating a build plan. The problem was that he couldn’t find what he wanted in the aftermarket. So he did what any real gearhead would do, he decided to build what he wanted from scratch!

Starting with the front and rear suspension cradles from a C5 Vette, Chris and his team fabricated an internally gusseted 1/8-inch wall frame for his ’66 Chevelle. As Chris told us, “The entire frame curves and sweeps on all the corners and crossmembers to minimize frame deflection from engine torque and cornering.” In other words, it’s insanely rigid.

And given his choice of powerplants there will be lots of torque on tap. Starting with an RHS race block, Callies rotating guts along with JE 9.5:1 blower pistons were stuffed into the short-block and then topped with LME Black Label CNC billet cylinder heads along with Crower shaft-mount stainless rockers. Topping off the long-block is an LME LS7 billet intake with a Nick Williams 102mm throttle body. Boost for the 427-inch LS will be courtesy of twin Garrett GTX3582r Gen II turbos. MSD components will handle the ignition while a Holley Dominator ECU will make everything work in harmony.

Chris plans for some long trips and extended track sessions so he went with a 28-gallon fuel tank emptied by a pair of Aeromotive in-tank fuel pumps. A Mattson’s dual-fan radiator will cool the engine while Vintage Air HVAC will take care of the passengers. Jones Racing will handle the power steering with one of their cog systems. Backing up the big-power LS will be a C6 Z06 six-speed with a Quick Time bellhousing and a McLeod ceramic dual-disc clutch. Out back, a pair of GForce Engineering axles will transfer the power with ease.

Rounding out the fabricated chassis will be a quartet of Brembo brakes riding inside a set of Forgeline center lock wheels (18×9 front and 20×12 rear) wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires. The Chevelle will run on 91-octane pump gas as well as E85. This is one project we’re dying to see on the road, or even better on the track!
