Five Star Race Car Bodies has announced it will hold a summit for tech inspectors at its Twin Lakes, WI facility on March 10-11.  The summit will act as a training and informational seminar for template-style Late Model body inspection protocol.

“It’s kind of a spinoff of the old tech seminars we used to have here.  We probably had four or five of them and they were really successful,” said Corey Schultz, Sales and Marketing Manager of Five Star.  “But it was all day and all things technical, so it was pretty intensive.  It was a lot of work to get speakers and curriculum.  We thought we’d simplify it and keep it to just bodies.”

The event is being put together to help manage the consistency of Late Model body inspecting around the country and on a track-by-track basis.  All attendees will be certified in proper tech inspection techniques for template-style Late Model bodies.

“It’s been a long time since there has been formal training for body technical inspection and because of that there are newer people getting in and inspecting.  There may be a lack of training involved,” Schultz said.  “Things are kind of varying a little bit.  I think by having a program like this it will be all inclusive.  We’d like to do this every couple of years so everyone is on the same page.”

The seminar is free to authorized track officials.  Among the topics to be covered are: how to properly and effectively use the Referee template; learning the proper body inspection techniques, tools, measurements, and tolerances; what to watch for when a racer presents their car for inspection; and tricks of the trade in body installation.

“We’re just trying to take any of the variation out of it,” Schultz said.  “People are asking for more leniencies in some areas on the cars.  This hopefully will reel it all back in.”

Schultz also said there are possible plans to film the summit and provide free video for inspectors who are not able to attend.

“This is more for the sustainability of the sport,” Schultz said.  “The sport is really dependent on quality tech inspection.  It’s more of our investment to the sport to make sure the sport stays healthy.  A good tech inspector is good for us and good for racing.”

The summit will also be a chance for inspectors to get a first-hand look at the 2018 Five Star body.  Five Star will explain the nuances as well as the similarities of the new body as compared to the current style.  They will also show how to tech it once it hits the market.  Schultz said the inspection will be quite similar to the older body.
