With NASCAR racers on hand to try to spoil the party, local Super Late Model ace Derek Thorn secured a major pay day during the 2017 Winter Showdown at Kern County Raceway this past weekend.
Thorn put forth a dominating performance by capturing the pole for the 250-lap race and leading it wire to wire. The win was worth $30,000.
Oklahoma’s Donnie Wilson finished Second behind Thorn. NASCAR racers Kyle Busch and Erik Jones finished Third and Fourth with Willie Allen rounding out the Top Five. Austin Barnes was victorious in the 50-lap Lucas Oil Modified feature.
