It’s now less than 24 hours before the doors open to the 65th Annual Meguiar’s Detroit Autorama and nearly 900 display vehicles are ready to be looked at, dreamt about, and ogled over! One of the country’s most popular shows, probably in the world!, Cobo Hall is the place to be the end of each February.
You can see in the photos that most of the displays are set up and cars, trucks, and other hot rods are in position. Now the mad frantic dash is on to handle all of the last minute details, clean this, adjust that and polish the paint and chrome to that oh so immaculate and brilliant finish.
It doesn’t matter whether you are a daily drive showing here with your club or one of the million dollar contenders for a Pirelli Great 8 to then move onto the Ridler award competition. From the looks of things there is no doubt that this year’s contenders for the Ridler are going to be spectacular.
Should you find yourself able to make it to downtown Detroit don’t miss the Hazzard County Stunt Show at 11:45 that will kick off the show. (Street Rodder will also be covering the stunt show on Facebook Live so make sure to follow in real time and watch the happenings.) For those who like to round up autographs Catherin Bach and Tom Wopat from the Dukes of Hazzard will be present.
If you like the use of torches and other hacking and whacking tools you are gonna love the return of Gene Winfield and his Chop Shop presented by Summit Racing Equipment. This happens in the basement which also serves as home to the Autorama Extreme (home to rat rods and all forms of traditional rods…and we might add music!)
Other notable attractions will be the Pinstripers Panel Jam for the charity auction presented by the Motor City Auto Art Mavens. Auctions will occur throughout the weekend. There will also be plenty of live music in the basement featuring Rhythm Deluxe on Friday; Twistin’ Tarantulas on Saturday and Sunday; and The Fast Eddie Band on Saturday and Sunday as well. Don’t forget the Vinsetta Garage Miss Autorama Pin-Up Girl content…that is always a hit!
This year there will be a display of rare “orphan” vehicles…you have to see this to understand but it’s kool. There is also the Cavalcade of Customs another hit each year featuring customs from mild to wild and each and every one is stunning.
