The action ramped up on Friday as the racers dialed in their tune-ups, getting their cars ready for qualifying, and we witnessed several outstanding performances. In Radial vs. The World, the top class of the event, 22 cars made passes in the 3 second range, with Stevie Jackson leading the group with a record-breaking elapsed time of 3.737 at 199.82. Just one pass prior, Barry Mitchell had run a 3.738 at 197.25, which was a new record until Jackson made his pass just a couple minutes later. Mark Woodruff set the RvW top speed record with his 3.836 at 212.69 mph.
In Outlaw Drag Radial, Daddy Dave Comstock led his class with consistent passes in the 4.20’s; with a qualifying time was 4.21 at 176.19. X275 saw Rob Goss qualify with a 4.38 at 164.33, while Phil Hines qualified in the second position with a 4.47 at 162.51. In Leaf Spring Shootout, Lyle Barnett set a new leaf-spring record with his insane 4.24 at 181.37 pass, moving him to the Number One qualifying spot in that class by more than a mile.
