AMBR Packard Keeps On Winning
“Mulholland Speedster,” the 1936 Packard built by Hollywood Hot Rods, has been a huge hit in 2017, winning awards wherever it has been.
Bruce Wanta’s remarkable coachbuilt classic won the Grand National Roadster Show’s top prize, America’s Most Beautiful Roadster, in January. A month later at the Sacramento Autorama the car took three of that event’s most prestigious awards—the Custom D’Elegance Award, the H.A. Bagdasarian Award/World’s Most Beautiful Custom, and the Sam Barris Memorial Award.
Participants at the 2015 Grand National Roadster Show got a sneak preview of the Mulholland Speedster, designed by Eric Black, when the Packard was displayed in bare metal at HHR’s booth in Building 4. STREET RODDER’s online report from then can be viewed here.
When Wanta’s handbuilt Packard came back to the show this year, it was one of the crowd favorites—and a judge favorite as well. Our report from Sacramento is online here. The story from the GNRS, here, features video and more than 200 photos of the car, including STREET RODDER’s studio shoot of the Mulholland Speedster in bare metal, studio shots of the completed chassis and engine (you’ll be amazed at what you’ll see with the body off), and build photos taken at Hollywood Hot Rods over the course of six years.
The Mulholland Speedster was recently in our studio once again, this time for a final photo shoot on the completed car. Look for the feature in these pages soon.

Build a Better Chassis
Every hot rodder building a chassis can benefit from help from a pro. Brent VanDervort, owner of Fatman Fabrications, has an engineering background and decades of experience designing chassis components and building hot rods. He has helped many builders decide what chassis components are best for their project, and taught them how to install those components correctly.
VanDervort’s newest book, Hot Rod Chassis, covers every topic from building a frame to picking and installing front and rear suspensions. The 144-page book is illustrated with more than 300 photos, and covers a wide range of issues, from arc theory to which fasteners are best for typical applications.
