Those Crazy Drag Week Danes!

Christian Damgaard is one of those guys they speak about that ship their cars across the world months in advance with the goal of competing in Hot Rod Magazines Drag Week. The 45 year old automotive electrician fell in love with the 1969 Chevelle many years ago. In 1993 he purchased a 1971 Chevy Impala, he calls Skandala, with the goal of fixing it up to flip so he could get his Chevelle. 23 years later and he still has the Impala.

Christian shipped the Impala to the States in 2016 for the first time to compete. He has been a spectator in the past however. Originally wanting to drive Route 66 and Power Tour he heard about Drag Week and knew he had to do it. Christian and his wife were planning the trip when tragically his wife passed away in December of last year. Christian’s friends and family pushed him to do Drag Week to do the event even without his wife.

Christians Impala is coated with a wild black and green paint scheme that grabs your attention. He is responsible for all the work on the car, and after being told the car would never be fast the plans for the car changed. Under all the beautiful paint work lies a 638 cubic inch big block with a 4l80e behind it. The rather large car runs an impressive 10.64@131! Christian seemed to be having a great time in 2016 as he successfully completed Drag Week in the BB N/A class.

Surviving the week and cruising on the back roads of America in his own car were really big for Christian. When he was able to hand in his final time slip and return to the pits a champion to his own goals the feeling must have been incredible. Meeting all the awesome people and just being involved was an incredible time for him.

Christian did finally get his 1969 Chevelle and he hopes to bring that car over to compete one year. It also has a big block, but it’s a “tiny” 582cube 1150 hp monster. That he claims is an “animal on the street” I hope he is able to bring that car here, as they really brought a lot of Drag Week spirit to the event.

Christian wants to thank all of his friends, sponsors, his co-pilot Mikkel Fly and Nicolai Christensen “the horny guy” we all seen with the Viking hat with the purple horns on it.
I personally want to thank Christian and all of his group for coming all the way here to share their passion and contribute to what the event is about.

Arguably the coolest checkpoint of Drag Week 2016. The locals were out in force to see all the Drag Weekers come through late into the night.
