Monday the Autopalooza.org Road Tour rolled into Taylor, Michigan. Jeff and Agnes Adwell, Gwen Russell, and the crew at Motor City Solutions were waiting with a big red carpet. Jeff and some of the Motor City Solutions team members had spent the morning doing a “shrimp boil” with potatoes, sausage, corn, and, of course, giant shrimp. It was delicious. If that wasn’t enough they decided to have some barbecue ribs available too. It was quite a way to start the afternoon.
Motor City Solutions is the Official Paint Protection Company for this year’s Road Tour. Their craftsmen had applied their Xpel protective film to the front of the hood and both front fenders. This protection has kept the front end of our 1957 Chevy chip free all summer. After our delicious lunch we got a tour of the huge facility at Motor City Solutions. The shop does complete restorations, hot rod repairs, and even has a complete upholstery facility. As if the lunch and the shop visit wasn’t enough Jeff, who grew up in Detroit, decided he wanted us to see the rejuvenated city of Detroit. A 50-passenger tour bus pulled up and the Road Tourians loaded up for a two-hour tour of Detroit that included some beautiful architecture, a stop at Belle Isle Park, and a great look at the real Detroit. Many thanks to Jeff and all the folks at Motor City Solutions in Taylor for starting our week in Detroit off in such amazing fashion. Be sure to take a look at our Facebook video from Motor City Solutions.

Tuesday our travels took us to Lansing, Michigan. In the morning we visited the R.E. Olds Museum. This museum tells the story of automotive pioneer R.E. Olds who was much more than just the founder of Oldsmobile. There were plenty of vehicles on display and they could all be traced back to the vision of R.E. Olds. It is a great museum and well worth a visit for any car enthusiasts. After our museum visit we drove across Lansing and arrived at the Michigan State Police Training Facility. We were able to see their collection of vintage patrol cars. We then got a real thrill when we walked over to the defensive driving track. We were invited to get in a take a few laps around the course with an experienced officer behind the wheel. It was a thrill ride, to say the least. Our final stop at the facility was at the Canine Division where we learned about the canine unit and the amazing work that those highly trained dogs and their handlers do throughout the state. Many thanks to everyone who went out of their way to make our visit to Lansing so enjoyable. There is plenty more to come as we get closer to the Woodward Dream Cruise this weekend.
