Shades of the Past shows off 1932 Ford three-window coupe as one of the winners
It all started with a set of wheels purchased at a swap meet in 2008, but we’re getting a bit ahead of ourselves. Mark Cain is owner operator of Shelby Speed & Kustom, but more importantly he heads up a non-profit organization called Shelby’s Way that brings awareness to Suicide Prevention (shelbysway.com). More on that later on the pages of Street Rodder magazine. For now let’s take a quick look the Ford Performance Best Ford in a Ford award winning Deuce three-window Mark brought to the 2017 Hot Rod Reunion presented by Shades of the Past car club at Dollywood’s Splash Country.
The car rolls on a Pete & Jakes chassis with a small block Ford stroker motor up front. The 347-inch motor hooks to a Lokar shifted, Pro-Tech built, C4 tranny that winds back to a John’s Industries 9-inch Ford rear. The small block Ford motor is like the rest of the car, clean and simple and the addition of Ford Racing valve covers and traditional blue oval coloring is the perfect accent to the Vintage Green coupes. While Mark handled the bodywork the final finish was laid down by Jason Graham.
Inside the bench seat was covered with vintage Chevrolet material by at Sewn-Tight, Shepherdsville, Kentucky. Classic Instruments monitor the small block Ford while Vintage Air keeps a cool car cooler. Those wheels, which were purchased well before the project began are Real Rodder wheels.
We picked the car simply because it “had the look” but the story behind the car is even more important. Like any good hot rod it would never have happened without friends in the industry. We’ll have the full story soon, but for now enjoy seeing our 2017 Shades Rod Run Best Ford in a Ford winner.
