Our visits to the greatest auto museums in Pennsylvania continued on Tuesday afternoon with a stop at the AACA Museum in Hershey, Pennsylvania. This is fantastic museum sits on a hill overlooking the Hershey Park Chocolate World, and the site of the greatest swap meet on earth. The museum contains a wide range of vintage and classic autos and motorcycles. The current special exhibit is “Barn Finds” and the examples were very interesting. Also on the first floor is the largest Tucker collection in the world. The basement holds a massive bus collection. It is a museum that car enthusiasts of all tastes will all appreciate.
Just around the corner from Hershey is Hummelstown and the home and shop of Ken “Posies” Fenical. Posies greeted us, along with daughters Shelly and Dawn and the entire Posies crew. Sandwiches were served and we all enjoyed the stories and tales from one of the most creative minds in our hobby. It was a very relaxing evening with a legend.
From Hershey we continued northeast to the historic town of Saratoga Springs, New York. Famous for its horse races, Saratoga Springs is also home to a great auto museum. On display during our visit were many of the vehicles that will soon be offered at the Saratoga Auto Auction presented by the Saratoga Automobile Museum. The permanent collection at the museum contains fantastic examples of early autos that were manufactured in the State of New York. Housed in a former spring water bottling plant, the Saratoga Automobile Museum is well worth a visit.
Thursday we made the beautiful drive further north in the Adirondack Mountains and into Vermont. Some of us took the ferry across the lower part of Lake Champlain and others elected to take the land route. Either way offered a fantastic view of the New York and Vermont countryside.
We were invited to The Auto Shoppe in Burlington for lunch. Owner Scott Roth greeted us and gave us a tour of the shop. Scott and his team are responsible for the amazing Split Ray Corvette that made the Great 8 at this year’s Detroit AutoRama. We also saw the wide range of vehicles that The Auto Shoppe is working on for both restoration and custom work. From classics to modern hot rods, The Auto Shoppe has all the bases covered. We were treated to some great pizza and we all enjoyed our visit to The Auto Shoppe.
The time has finally arrived. The NSRA Northeast Street Rod Nationals opens tomorrow and we will all be in the center of the activities at the Champlain Valley Expo Center in Essex Junction, Vermont.
