After capturing some of the biggest races of the season and the Pro Stock Championship at Seekonk (MA) Speedway, Dave Darling wouldn’t be denied in the season’s final event – the D. Anthony Venditti Memorial. Darling outlasted Ryan Vanasse on a late restart to win the 150 lap event.
Darling showed to be strong early in the race and paced the field until he was challenged just prior to the midway point by Joe Squeglia. Squeglia took the lead from Darling on lap 70. Darling would catch his break on lap 111 when he was the only driver to head to the pits for fresh tires. Darling quickly sliced his way back to the lead and built his advantage.
After cycling through visits to the pits, Vanasse again found his way to Second, which set up the final battle on a restart with five laps to go. Although Vanasse edged ahead on the outside for the lead, Darling held strong down low and eventually grabbed the lead back. Darling clipped Vanasse at the line by just 0.171 seconds.
Derek Griffith (as you will see in this video) finished Third over Travis Benjamin. Nick Lascuola rounded out the Top Five.
