Driving your hot rod on a daily basis gives you plenty of street cred, but they’re not very practical if you need to haul tools or equipment, or, say, go camping. Sometimes you just need a functional utility vehicle. Enter the 2019 Dodge Ram 1500, which is available in several iterations like the Rebel, Limited, and the biggest seller in Texas: the Lone Star.

This truck is more than capable of handling the needs of a weekend warrior with a race vehicle and tools to haul around. It can handle towing 12,750 pounds and 2,300 pounds of payload. Multiple interior options are available, so it won’t be hard to find the right combination for your needs with the completely redesigned interior.

The option list on this new Ram is lengthy, allowing buyers to tailor the truck to their needs. The Bed Utility Group is be ideal for storing and organizing parts and tools. The 4×4 Off-Road Group is a great if you live in snowy climates, and to keep the precious cargo in check, the Trailer Tow Mirrors, and Brake Group are a must. The Max Towing Package works for people who tow heavier toys like project vehicles to and from the body shop.

Texas residents are in luck, because they have access to several options that the rest of us do not: Active Level Air Suspension, electric-locking rear axle, Blind-Spot Monitoring, and 20-inch aluminum wheels.

For power, two engine options are available: The 3.6L Pentastar V6 and 5.7L HEMI V8 with 305 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque and 395hp and 410 lb-ft of torque respectively. Each engine can be coupled with the newest generation of Dodge’s eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission. The 2019 Ram features eTorque technology that combines a belt-driven generator unit and a 48-volt battery pack that provides short-duration torque assist and brake regeneration. This system adds up to 90 lb-ft of torque and comes standard with the V6 engine.  It adds 150 lb-ft to the HEMI if that option is selected.
